COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland softball team dropped the finale of a three-game home series to #24 Virginia Tech, 8-3, on Sunday afternoon. The Hokies used a five-run second inning to move to 25-10 on the season, 7-2 in the ACC, while the Terps drop to 23-9, 1-5 in the ACC.

Virginia Tech starter Angela Tincher (17-4) gave up three runs before striking out 18, including 11 in a row. Maryland starter Sarah Dooley took the loss and fell to (10-7). Meredith Nelles pitched 4 2/3 innings while allowing only one earned run in relief for the Terps.

Maryland senior Jenny Belak hit her 12th career triple to lead off the game for the Terps, extending her school career record. Alex Schultz drew a walk and stole a base before freshman Kerry Hickey singled to give the Terps a 2-0 lead. Devon Williams singled in Hickey to round out the scoring for the Terps.

The Hokies fought back in the top of the second inning, scoring five runs on five off of Maryland starter Sarah Dooley. Jessica Everhart hit a home run to left-center field in the sixth inning before the Hokies added two more runs in the seventh to end the scoring.

Maryland threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning with Breanna Shaw and Williams earning walks, but Tincher struck out the next two batters to end the threat.

The Terps return to action Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader against Delaware State slated to begin at 5 p.m.
