
Gist and Vasquez Honored by NABC

Kansas City, Mo. - Maryland senior forward James Gist (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) and sophomore guard Greivis Vasquez (Caracas, Venezuela) have been named to the NABC District 5 second team. Members of the all-district teams were selected by the members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Gist and Vasquez are now eligible for the State Farm Division I All-America teams which will be announced Saturday, April 5 at the NABC Convention in San Antonio.
Gist is eighth in the ACC in scoring (16.1 ppg) and ranks fourth in rebounding (7.9 rpg). He is second in the league in blocked shots (2.24 bpg) and is fourth in field goal percentage (.514). He has scored in double figures 22 times this season and has tallied at least 20 points seven times, including a career-high 31 points at Wake Forest on February 28. Gist recorded at least five rebounds 25 times this year and has posted five double-doubles. He was named the Sporting News National Player of the Week on February 11.
Vasquez leads the ACC in assists (6.73 apg) and is fourth in scoring (17.5). Averaging 36.8 minutes per game, he is 10th in the ACC in defensive rebounds (4.7 rpg). Vasquez has started all 30 games this season for Maryland and has scored in double figures 28 times. Vasquez has tallied at least 20 points 11 times and has recorded at least five assists in 20 games. His 58 three pointers this season are the most for a sophomore at Maryland, while his 202 assists is the third-highest total among second-year Terrapins.
Maryland (18-12, 8-7 ACC) closes out the regular season when the Terps visit Virginia Sunday (March 9) evening. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network, and will be televised nationally by Fox SportsNet.
