COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Currently half a game out of the final ACC Tournament spot with two series left to play, the University of Maryland baseball team is looking to make up ground in the conference standings when it heads to Boston College this weekend for a three-game series.
The Terps enter the series with a 26-21 overall record and 8-16 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Maryland is half a game behind both Duke and Wake Forest for the eighth and final spot in the ACC Tournament. With Duke and Wake Forest playing one another, the Terps will need a good showing against the Eagles to make up ground.
Boston College has the second-worst record in the ACC at 5-19 and 21-24 overall. The Eagles have lost nine consecutive conference games and 15 of their last 18.
All three games are set for 1 p.m. starts. Sophomore Scott Swinson (Ellicott City, Md./George Washington University) will start for the Terps on Friday with Brett Jones (Dunkirk, Md./Southern) to follow Saturday and Kevin Biringer (Albuquerque, N.M./Bradley University) pitching the series finale Sunday.
Boston College leads the all-time series between the two schools, 5-3, including two series victories in the last two years.
With a series victory this weekend, the Terps will reach double digits in conference victories for the first time since 1972.
All three games can be heard live online at WMUCSports.com. Video of Friday's game will be available online at ACCSelect.com.
