TUCSON, Ariz. -
Maryland sophomore right-handed pitcher Scott Swinson was named the "Louisville Slugger" National Pitcher of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Monday.
Swinson was also named the Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday after throwing the sixth no-hitter in school history last Tuesday at Delaware to give the Terps their 30th victory of the season, 4-0 over the Blue Hens.
A native of Ellicott City, Md., Swinson struck out a career-high 10 batters in the game, allowing only three base runners on two walks and a hit batsman. Swinson only faced two batters over the minimum to earn his team-high fifth victory of the season and second complete-game victory of the year.
The no-hitter was the first solo no-hitter by a Maryland pitcher since John Rayne in 1992 against Virginia and the first solo and shutout no-hitter since Rich Fillings against Clemson in 1972.
