
Terps Open 2009 Season at Virginia Tech Invitational

Blacksburg, Va. - The University of Maryland track and field team opened its 2009 season at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Tommy Frischia finished first in the 800 meter with a time of 1:55.63.
On the women's side, Kelley Pry led the Terps with a third-place finish in the 800 meters. She was the only Terp to compete in the event and finished with a time of 2:20.67.
In the 300-meter dash, senior Michelle Fedrick placed third with a time of 39.23. In the same event, sophomores Kiani Profit placed fifth and twelfth with respective times of 39.58 and 41.29.
The Terrapins also had three top-10 finishers in the weight throw. Ashley Williams led the pack with a throw of 44-08.00, to place second. Jessie Echard finished eighth with a mark of 35-03.25, and Kristen Batts had a throw of 34-10.25 and placed 10th. The Terps continue their 2009 season today in the second day of the Virginia Tech Invitational.
