Dwight Barbiasz secures NCAA qualifying mark in High Jump

Blacksburg, Va. - The Virginia Tech Invitational proved to be a showcase of the Terps' recently added talent. Freshman, Dwight Barbiasz placed first in the high jump and posted a IC4A qualifying mark of 7-00.25. Jason Allen finished third in the long jump with a mark of 24-04.25, while Jarenn Stewart rounded out the top ten with a 21-11.00 jump.
In the 800 meter, Tommy Friscia ran a 1:55.63 to finish first. A junior from Union Beach, N.J., Friscia placed ninth in the 800 at the 2008 ACC Championships.
Transfer junior Alexis Booker led the group of Terps competing in Saturday's 200 meter event. She placed second in 25.21, ahead of D'Ambour Lewis who finished fourth (25.60) and Heidi Paul who finished fifth with a time of 25.69.
A transfer student from the University of Florida, Booker also placed third in Friday's 60 meter dash with a time of 7.62. Freshman DeAnna Brown followed in fifth place with a 7.77 time.
Senior Ashley Williams placed second in the shot put with a mark of 44-08.00, Jessie Echard finished eighth posting a mark of 35-03.25 and Kristin Batts placed 10th with a mark of 34-10.25.
Also for the Terps, freshman Ashley Hendrix made her Terrapin debut jumping 18-03.25 while sophomore Kiani Profit placed third in the long jump with a mark of 18-03.00. In the same event, Ashley Carbray placed seventh 18-00.25 and Katie Rogus placed ninth with a mark of 16.07.25.

The Terps return to action next week as they host the Maryland Invitational on Saturday at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:30, with the men's weight throw. Log onto UMTerps.com for further information and results.
