COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The Maryland swimming and diving team certainly managed to stay warm over the break. First the squad savored the sunshine in Florida on a training trip and then the Terps felt the warmth in their hearts when the squad spent three hours at the Capital Area Food Bank helping others last Friday.
The Terps spent approximately three hours organizing and re-packaging food for those in need in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Both the men's and women's teams participated with 42 swimmers and divers aiding the less fortunate.
"This is a great activity that allows for team bonding and gives us a chance to give back to the community," senior captain Eric Cullen said. "As a senior, I know how important and beneficial it is to participate in activities such as this."
According to its website, the Capital Area Food Bank is the largest, public nonprofit hunger and nutrition education resource in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. Each year the CAFB distributes 20 million pounds of food, including 6 million pounds of fresh produce, to over 700 partner agencies.
Maryland returns to competition this weekend, playing host to Pennsylvania trio Villanova, Pittsburgh and Penn State Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Eppley Recreation Natatorium.
