COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's tennis team kicks off the 2009 campaign this weekend with a pair of matches.
The Terps will face off against Purdue on Saturday and No. 30 Indiana on Sunday. Both matches are set to start at 10 a.m.
The opening weekend returns the Terps to competition for the first time in over two months. Maryland participated in three tournaments in the fall.
Purdue enters the match at 1-2, with its lone win coming against Miami (Ohio).
With a 4-0 record, Indiana is off to a hot start. The Hoosiers are coming off back-to-back, 7-0 sweeps of Marquette and Ball State.
Maryland returns seven players from last year's roster, led by junior captain Lisa Miller and senior co-captain Michal Amir. That duo combined for an 8-3 mark in doubles in the fall.
The veterans are joined by three freshmen - Jordan Hansbrough, Jordan Harvey and Lauren Wolman - eager to begin their first spring season as Terps. Hansbrough had six singles victories in the fall, second most on the team behind junior Eleanor Peters' seven.
Maryland returns to College Park on Saturday, Feb. 7 for its home opener against Columbia.
