Terrapin Cup Begins Thursday

The Maryland women's swimming and diving team hosts the three-day 2009 Terrapin Cup beginning Thursday morning at Eppley Recreation Natatorium.
Maryland (5-1) defeated UMBC and Towson its last time in the water. The Terps were led by reigning ACC Swimmer of the Week Ginny Glover, who took home two individual first place finishes and two solid relay performances. Glover won the 100 back (56.40) and the 500 free (4:56.53) to guide the Terps to a sweep of Towson (184.5-115.5) and UMBC (214.5-85.5). Her back time is the fourth-best mark in the league this season, while her free swim tallied in as the 10th best.
The Terps are looking for a repeat this season after winning the 2008 Terrapin Cup in commanding fashion.
Morning sessions for the 2009 Terrapin Cup begin at 10 a.m. with the evening edition kicking off at 6 p.m.
Terrapin Cup Opponent Notes:
William & Mary (5-1)
-Senior Katie Radloff was named CAA Co-Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season. Radloff was also named to the CAA 25th Anniversary Team (10/22).
Navy (7-0)
-For the third time this season, senior Tara Chapmon was named Patriot League Swimmer of the Week. Chapmon set school records in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:14.08, the 200m freestyle at 2:01.23, and helped with the 200m medley relay with a time of 1:57.14.
Villanova (3-4)
-Against West Virginia, sophomore diver Amanda DiMarco swept the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions with scores of 428.78 and 252.30, respectively.
Towson (8-1)
-In their season opener at the Potomac Relays Invitational, the Tigers won every event and set records in seven of the nine events.
-Junior Meredith Blunder was awarded CAA Swimmer of the Week (11/10) for the third time in her career after going undefeated in each of the her three individual meets this season. Blunder was also named to the CAA 25th Anniversary Team.
Drexel (3-3)
-After her performance against Binghamton (11/14), freshman Megan Halcek was named CAA Diver of the Week. Halcek finished more than 77 points ahead of the second-place finisher in the 1-meter with a score of 245.63 and won the 3-meter by more than 65 points by posting a score of 246.15. Her high scores so far this season have already secured Halcek a place in the NCAA Diving Zone Regional.
Connecticut (4-1)
-Sophomore Caitlin Gallagher lead the Huskie women to wins over both Brown and Laval (11/14) with her wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.65), 200 breaststroke (2:21.39), and 200 IM (2:08.32).
Mary Washington (5-1)
-After setting school records in all four of her events during the Eagles' sweep at a CAC tri-meet at York (11/6), junior Sarah Crockett was selected the CAC Swimming Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. Crockett posted top times in 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke and contributed to the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay victories.
