Maryland Quotes

Head coach Gary Williams

On the game:
"When I set up the game, I was hoping it would be a team that was very aggressive and quite hard. They did a great job and now we can go back and point out some things. Games like that are really valuable so that you can walk in tomorrow with a tape of you playing someone else instead of playing against yourself all the time.

"Good teams learn. It doesn't matter how good you are but you want to change to get better, so hopefully we learned a lot from tonight. A lot of guys had a chance to play, which is always good. We got through the first-game jitters so we'll just go on from here."

On Jordan Williams' and James Padgett's performance:
"I thought Jordan was fine, he worked hard defensively and James was good. They were both a little nervous but they did some good things too, so I think that was a big step for them."

On Sean Mosley:
"This time last year, Sean had a bad ankle. He was trying to play because Sean will (try to) play hurt. He got hit hard in his stomach so hopefully he's okay from that. He's just playing hard and he's a better shooter right now."

Sophomore guard Sean Mosley

On working in the off-season:
"I just worked in the off-season on getting shots up, trying to get consistent within the game, within the offense."

On the team's performance:
"We did a great job offensively, [we could] probably do a little better defensively. We can score a lot of points but at the end of the day it all depends on if we can stop the opponents."

Senior guard Greivis Vasquez

On the team's effort:
"It was good. Tonight we learned what we need to work on in practice...Now that we know what to think, we really have to be prepared. We have to get ready to play. I thought overall, we did okay."

Junior guard Adrian Bowie

On finally playing another team:
"We've been playing together since October 18th, so it's been a while. We haven't played against another team since Memphis, so it's been a long time."

On evaluating the team:
"We can definitely score more, but it's more about defense right now. We're worried more about our defense than our offense right now."

On what needs to improve defensively:
"Outside defense, rebounding, and transition defense. We thought that [IUP] had too many offensive rebounds. We thought that they had way too many for their size."

Senior forward Landon Milbourne

On Jordan Williams and James Padgett:
"They made a pretty good impact on me. Those guys are good, [they] have big bodies and they run the floor."

Indiana (Pa.) Quotes

Head coach Joe Lombardi

On the game:
"I liked the way our guys competed. We played extremely well. We played up to Maryland's level at times. So I was pleased with that but not necessarily surprised. We do have some talented guys. But Maryland's overall depth and ability just wore us down. I thought they did an extremely good job defensively with their hands and turning us over and that led to a lot of easy buckets for them. I think that was probably the biggest reason for a separation in the game, is the transition points they got off our turnovers or their good defense actually."

On the expectation for his team this season:
"We play Wake Forest on Thursday and we play Georgia Tech on Sunday. We're in a new stratosphere so to speak. We're picked by Sporting News sixth in the country [in DII] and we're picked to win our league. So there are some expectations and they go with that. It is one thing to come down here and think you can compete but then they have to know that they can compete. I know there's some separation [with Maryland] but I want our guys to know you come in to win, you just don't come in to show up and enjoy the great atmosphere they have at the Comcast (Center). We came in to try and win a game."

On Maryland:
"Any time you have good guards and experienced guards, which they do, and they have a lot of them, you have a chance every night you go out on the floor. Depending on how fast their big men are able to develop as the year goes on will dictate how they matchup against other types of teams with greater size."
