WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sophomore Lynetta Kizer and freshman Tianna Hawkins combined for 41 of Maryland's points in the Terps' 75-64 win over American Sunday afternoon. The Terrapins earned their first road win of the season to improve to 9-2.

Balanced scoring came from Maryland's post players as both Kizer and Hawkins notched double-doubles after posting at least 20 points each. Kizer earned her 11th career and second season double-double with 21 points and13 rebounds. Hawkins got her third career double-double with 20 points and 12 boards.

Sophomore Kim Rodgers took the first and only lead of the game with a clean shot from behind the arc. Maryland led by as many as eight points in the first half and despite American's efforts, the Eagles could not pull ahead. The Terrapins shut down the Eagles' lead scorer Michelle Kirk in the first half. Kirk is averaging 20 points per game and only managed seven in the first 20 minutes of play. Teams went into the locker rooms with the Terps leading 37-31.

American scored the first five points of the second half with a three by Kirk and jumper from Raven Harris. Maryland then went on another 8-0 run sparked by Hawkins. The biggest lead for the Terps was 15 points with seven minutes remaining. The 14-2 run was ignited by a layup from Kizer and finished with two successful free throw shots by freshman Dara Taylor. American had two shot clock violations within the Terrapins' big run adding to the momentum. Maryland never trailed by more than 10 points the rest of the game.

The Terrapins recorded their second best shooting performance of the season hitting 28-of-54 (.519). This was the 10th time Maryland had multiple players record double digits and the third time they hit over 50 percent of their shots. The Terps worked an effective defense fouling a season low eight times. Taylor dominated the Maryland offense dishing out a career high-tying 11 assists to add to the team's 19.

Freshman forward Diandra Tchatchouang has scored in double-digits in nine of the Terps' 11 games this season. She scored 12 in today's win on 6-for-13 shooting from the field. She added five rebounds, had four assists, a block and a steal. Rodgers added 10 points in the win. She hit both of her free throws, which extends her streak of 23-of-24 made free throws since Mississippi State game.

Maryland returns to action Sunday, Dec. 27 against Stony Brook at 6 p.m. ET in Comcast Center. The game is the first of three in the Terrapin Classic hosted by the Terps from Dec. 27-29. Maryland will also play UNC-Wilmington on Tuesday, Dec. 29. Tickets for games over the holidays are half price including the Terrapins' Jan. 3 game against Saint Joseph's.
