Maryland improves to 9-2 while American falls to 5-5.
The Terrapins continue to dominate the overall series with the Eagles with an 11-1 advantage.
Maryland returns to action Sunday, Dec. 27 against Stony Brook at 6 p.m. ET. The game is the first of three in the Terrapin Classic hosted by the Terps from Dec. 27-29. Maryland will also play UNC-Wilmington on Tuesday, Dec. 29. Tickets for games over the holidays are half price included the Terrapin's Jan. 3 game against Saint Joseph's.
Team Game Notes
Line-up: Dara Taylor, Lori Bjork, Lynetta Kizer, Kim Rodgers and Diandra Tchatchouang. This starting lineup is now 1-0 this season.
Key run: The Terps maintained the lead throughout the game, but broke an 8-0 run with 11:29 left in the second half to put it away. Sparked by a Lynetta Kizer layup, the Terrapins opened up an 11 point lead.
Four Terps broke the 10-point mark in today's game, Tianna Hawkins (20), Lynetta Kizer (21) Diandra Tchatchouang (12) and Kim Rodgers (10). Maryland has had at least two players score double-digits in all but one game this season. They are 9-1 when multiple players record double-figure points.
Maryland won the battle on the boards, 46-21, and has out-rebounded their opponent in all games except one (at Mississippi State, 42-41).
The Terrapins recorded their second best shooting performance of the season hitting 28-of-54 (.519).
Maryland dished out the second highest number of assists this season with 19. Dara Taylor accounted for 11 of those assists.
Maryland only fouled eight times, a season low.
Individual Game Notes
Sophomore center Lynetta Kizer had her 11th career double-double against the Eagles. She had 21 points off 7-for-9 shooting from the field and from the charity stripe. Her 13 rebounds were a new season high.
Coming off the bench, freshman forward Tianna Hawkins had her third career double-double with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting. She was also 4-for-8 from the foul line. She grabbed 12 rebounds in the win.
In just her fourth career start, and first since the Howard game on Nov. 27, freshman guard Dara Taylor dished a career-high 11 assists. She added six rebounds, four points and one steal in her 38 minutes on the floor.
Freshman forward Diandra Tchatchouang has scored in double-digits in nine of the Terps' 11 games this season. She scored 12 in today's win on 6-for-13 shooting from the field. She added five rebounds, had four assists, a block and a steal.
Sophomore guard Kim Rodgers notched 10 points in the win, going 3-for-8 from the field and 2-for-6 from outside the arc. She hit both of her free throws, which extends her streak of 23-of-24 made free throws since the Mississippi State game.
