COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Greivis Vasquez scored 17 of his 26 points in the second half and Landon Milbourne had his first career double-double but Maryland fell to William & Mary, 83-77, in a non-conference men's basketballl game on Wednesday night at Comcast Center.
Sophomore Quinn McDowell scored a career-high 28 points and Danny Sumner added 17 for the Tribe (9-2), who beat Wake Forest in November. It's the first time in school history that William & Mary has defeated two ACC foes on the road in the same season.
William & Mary extended its winning streak to nine games, while the Terrapins (8-4) had a three-game winning streak snapped.
Vasquez's 26-point game was his fourth straight game with at least 20 points. Milbourne added 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Maryland went 4 for 25 from 3-point range and was outscored 25-13 at the foul line.
The Tribe got 12 points from Sumner and went 6 for 13 from beyond the arc in going up 39-30 at halftime. A 3-pointer by Sean McCurdy put the Tribe ahead 48-36 with 15:57 remaining, and after Maryland 56-49, McDowell scored on a drive and added two free throws to make it 60-49 with 8:53 to go.
The Terrapins got within 10 before Marcus Kitts sandwiched two dunks around a pair of free throws by Kendrix Brown to give William & Mary a 68-52 lead with 6:41 left.
Maryland cut the gap to nine points with 2:17 to go, but could not complete the comeback.
The Terrapins missed 17 of their first 28 field goal tries, including a 1 for 11 performance from 3-point range, while falling behind 33-25.
Maryland's lone 3-pointer over the first 17 minutes _ by Eric Hayes off a behind-the-back pass by Vasquez - put the Terrapins in front 13-7. Sumner then connected twice from beyond the arc during an 11-2 run that put the Tribe ahead 20-17.
