Maryland Women's Tennis Back in Action After Earning First Win of Season

Feb. 13, 2009

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Fresh off their first victory of the season over Columbia, the Maryland women's tennis team prepares to hit the courts this weekend.

The Terrapins (1-2) will be tested this weekend as they face two ranked opponents in No. 74 Richmond and No. 64 Old Dominion.

After dropping the season opener to Wake Forest, Richmond (5-1) has won five consecutive matches, including a win over No. 67 Pennsylvania. The last time Maryland squared off against Richmond, the Terps earned a 7-0 sweep of the Spiders.

Also winners of five in-a-row, Old Dominion (7-2) earned the No. 64 ranking in part by an upset victory over No. 36 N.C. State in Raleigh. Last years match against Old Dominion saw Maryland secure the win, 5-2.

The Terrapins will look for continued success from their veterans Lisa Miller and Eleanor Peters, both who have eight singles victories in the 2008-2009 season.

The duo of Miller and Michal Amir look to extend their hot play as they go for their third doubles victory of the spring season. The twosome is listed as No. 9 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Regional rankings.

Maryland battles Richmond on Saturday and Old Dominion on Sunday. Play begins at the Tennis Center at College Park on both days at 10 a.m.
