Terps Women's Tennis Bested by No. 64 Old Dominion, 5-2

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team fell to nationally ranked, No. 64 Old Dominion Sunday at the Tennis Center at College Park, 5-2. The Terrapins picked up two singles victories with contributions by Lisa Miller and Jordan Hansbrough.

Old Dominion (9-2) earned the doubles point with a sweep of the three matches. At the No. 1 spot, Michal Amir and Lisa Miller were downed by Charleen Haarhoff and Nadine Fahoum, 8-3. Maryland (1-4) juniors Maggie MacKeever and Eleanor Peters were defeated by Joanna Dobrowolska and Irina Dementyeva, 8-4, while Karin Lundmark and Oksana Krutiyenko lost to Marija Citic and Margarita Spicin, by the same score.

Krutiyenko dropped her match at No. 5 singles, losing to Dementyeva, 6-1, 6-4, after winning her first start of the season a day earlier.

The Lady Monarchs gained a 3-0 match lead as Old Dominion's Fahoum dispatched of Amir, 6-2, 6-3.

Miller helped the Terrapins get back in the match by winning from the No. 4 spot, defeating Spicin, 6-4, 7-6(5).

Playing at No. 2 singles for the first time this season, Lundmark lost a close battle with Haarhoff. After dropping the opening set 7-5, Lundmark pulled out a second set victory, 6-2, before falling in the deciding set 7-5. The win by Haarhoff clinched the match for the Lady Monarchs.

The final matches of the afternoon saw the Terps split two matches that went to third set tiebreakers. In the No. 3 position, Peters fell to Dobrowolska, 6-7(1), 7-5, 10-5, while Hansbrough edged out Citic, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.

The Maryland women's tennis teams returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 18 as they take on William & Mary at the Tennis Center at College Park.
