Hey Everyone!
We're finally back to school after a very long, but exciting, weekend of traveling and competitions! We competed at both Pittsburgh and Kent State over the weekend where we hit an impressive 49 out of 50 routines. These two solid performances helped pull us up 14 spots in the NCAA rankings, moving us to the No. 25 spot! I think it's safe to say the Terps are on a roll!
The weekend started off Friday night in Pittsburgh, where we went 25-for-25 and earned a new season-high score of 194.65. Bars was our first event of the evening where both Abbey Adams and Brandi George posted scores of 9.825 to win the event. We stayed strong on vault, earning three scores of 9.775 and pushed past Pitt on floor where Brandi posted another top score of 9.825 to win the event. We finished up the meet on beam with high energy and seven solid beam performances that helped us sail past Pittsburgh and take home another victory against a fellow EAGL team!
Saturday was our day off, and we spent it shopping, relaxing and resting up for another long day of competition.
We closed out the weekend Sunday by hitting 23-for-24 at Kent State and earning another high score of 194.375 to add to our other impressive scores we've already earned this season. We started on beam where scoring was extremely tight, even on our best beam sets. We didn't let it get us down and we bounced back on floor, where Michele Brenner and Abbey Adams both posted solid scores of 9.8. We kept the momentum rolling on vault, where we earned an event season-high of 48.975. Kyra Phillips also earned a career best on the event scoring a 9.9 and tying for second place! We finished strong on bars, where Kaitlin Joseph completed her new full-in dismount for the first time this season to earn a 9.8! Although we had some small mistakes here and there, we fought for everything and stayed positive and determined throughout both meets.
As a team, we have had to overcome a great deal of obstacles this past year, but we have all stayed strong, motivated and determined despite it all. We can't wait for Allie Dama to get better and back into the gym because it's just not the same without her here.
We're back at home Friday night and taking on the University of New Hampshire Wildcats. The meet will start at 6 p.m. in the Comcast Center Pavilion and it's free! This meet is in support of Breast Cancer research so I hope to see you all there.... and wearing lots and lots of PINK! GO TERPS!
Take care and best wishes,
Talia
