COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After a solid meet on the women's side, the Maryland men's swimming and diving team is ready to return to the pool for its turn in the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, beginning Wednesday at the Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium.
Maryland (6-7, 0-4) is led by the senior duo of Andy Dilz and Eric Cullen. Dilz has had a breakout year for the Terps, tallying the best seventh-best time in the 50 free (20.37), 12th in the 100 breast (56.47), and 11th in the 200 breast (2:03.50) this season. Also entering a top-ten time is Cullen, who has owned the breaststroke for Maryland all-season long. The senior and former ACC Swimmer of the Week has the ninth-best time in the 200 breast (2:03.23) and the 10th best in the 100 breast (56.19). Freshman Andrew Relihan is also poised to make a nice debut in his first championships, bringing top-20 times in the 200 IM (1:52.26), 400 IM (4:01.42) and 200 back (1:49.41).
As it was during the women's meet where Jen Vogel captured the 200 fly, the Maryland men should also have a solid event during their go-around this week as Sean Stewart (9th-1:49.29), Aleksander Damjanic (10th-1:49.71) and Roger Dent (17th - 1:50.95) could earn the Terps some points. Damjanic also boasts the tenth-best time in the 100 fly (49.55). The Maryland relays are strongest in the 200 free (5th- 1:21.64) and 200 medley (6th- 1:31.23) heading into the championships.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday's finals will be broadcast live via ACC Select. Parking for the 2009 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships will be available in the Stadium Drive Garage for $5 per day and includes in-and-out privileges. Stadium Drive Garage is located next to the Byrd Football Stadium. Handicap spaces are available in front of the Eppley Recreation Center.
