COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Terrapin seniors took center stage Saturday afternoon as the Maryland swimming and diving team defeated Georgetown at Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium.

The men's squad upended the Hoyas, 140-98, much in part to a solid day from senior John Closs. Closs captured the 50 free (21.22) and tallied a lifetime best in a first-place finish in the 100 free (46.79). The senior class continued to shine as Andy Dilz and Eric Cullen came up with clutch first-place performances. Dilz won the 100 back (52.82) and 200 breast (2:07.06) while Cullen took first in the 100 breast (57.01). On the men's side, Kyle Glennon, Chris Chambers and Dong Kim all celebrated Senior Day Saturday as well.

The Maryland women were led to a 134-94 win courtesy of its lone senior, Yelena Skalinskaya, who won the 50 free (23.67). Not to be outdone, the Terrapin freshmen had a solid day in the pool as well, as Ginny Glover registered a solid time in the 200 back (2:01.37) and Alexa Hamilton continued to excel in the 200 breast (2:19.14). Jackie Davidson took first in the 100 back (57.66) while Laura Wright had another quality meet for Maryland, registering a top time in the 200 IM (2:06.39).

"This day was about the seniors and their dedication and commitment to this program," head coach Sean Schimmel said. "I challenged our team today to inspire each other with their willingness, preparation or outcome...I think we did just that. Both teams are in a good spot heading into the ACC Championships."

Maryland plays host to the 2009 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 18-21(women) and Feb. 25-28 (men).
