COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore Jennifer Anderson and freshman Michelle Takeda blasted home runs and senior Sarah Dooley went the distance on the mound as the University of Maryland softball team trounced Seton Hall, 11-1, Friday afternoon to open the Maryland Invitational.

Powered by Anderson, who hit a three-run shot as part of six-run third inning, and Takeda, who contributed her team-leading fourth long-ball of the season in the first, the Terrapins (11-10) compiled a season-high 11 runs on 10 hits to climb above .500 for the first time this season.

Dooley pitched a four-hitter, needing less than 90 pitches to close out the five-inning affair. The veteran right-hander struck out five while walking only one. For Dooley (3-5), it marked her team-best third complete game of the season and the 19th of her career.

Maryland, which has won four consecutive games, improved to 7-0 this season when it scores six or more runs and avoided a strikeout for the third consecutive game - a span of 99 at-bats. Friday's victory was the 450th win in team history.

After plating three runs during the first inning Wednesday versus Towson, the Terps did likewise Friday, as sophomore Niki Lau led off with a single up the middle and scored when sophomore Kerry Hickey lined a double to deep left center. Hickey trotted home two batters later as the beneficiary of Takeda's blast over the left field fence.

The Terps went back to work two innings later, batting through the entire lineup and producing their highest-scoring inning of the season. Hickey had another opportunity to round the bases leisurely, when she and Takeda scored on Anderson's second three-run homer of the season. Senior Devon Williams followed with a double and scored on freshman Kathy McLaughlin's RBI single. McLaughlin and junior Alex Schultz also reached home plate following a Seton Hall error.

Maryland concluded its scoring in the fourth inning, as Schultz and Anderson both drove in runs. Hickey, Schultz and Williams each finished the game with a pair of hits. Anderson and Takeda combined for five of the team's nine RBIs via the long-ball.

Senior Kim Schweitzer (4-4) suffered the loss for the Seton Hall (7-9) after surrendering seven earned runs in 2.1 innings in the pitcher's circle.

The Terrapins return to action Saturday with a pair of tournament games in Robert E. Taylor Stadium. Maryland takes on Delaware at 1 p.m. followed by a matchup with Fordham at 3 p.m. Last season the Terps beat the Rams in a 13-12 thriller after overcoming a six-run deficit.

Each Maryland Invitational matchup is free to the public. Free parking is available in Lot 4B all day Saturday and Sunday.
