COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Sarah Dooley picked up two more wins on the mound and the Terrapins' offense supported her with seven extra-base hits as the University of Maryland softball team claimed a pair of victories Sunday in Robert E. Taylor Stadium. The Terps defeated Mount St. Mary's, 7-1, and Howard, 8-4, to conclude the Maryland Invitational with a record of 4-1.

Dooley, a veteran right-hander from St. Louis, Mo., went the distance against the Mountaineers for her fifth complete game of the season, allowing just two hits and no earned runs. She returned to the pitcher's circle several hours later in relief of freshman Kendra Knight and went 2.1 scoreless innings against the Bison to earn yet another win.

In all, Dooley (6-5) collected each of Maryland's four victories during the Maryland Invitational, accumulating 25.1 innings of work. She allowed just five earned runs during the six-team tournament while striking out 29 batters. All three of her tournament starts went for complete games.

Finding their stride at the plate, the Terrapins compiled 19 hits Sunday to raise their team batting average to .290. Maryland (14-11) improved to 9-0 this season when it scores six runs or more.

During Sunday's first game against Mount St. Mary's, freshman Michelle Takeda went deep for the third time during the Maryland Invitational and sixth time this season, leading off the fourth inning with a solo shot to left field. Her blast ignited a five-run inning, as freshman Kathy McLaughlin, the hero from Saturday's win over Delaware, added a two-run triple.

Takeda finished the game 3-for-3 with an RBI double to go along with her home run. In addition to Takeda and McLaughlin, five other Terrapin batters accounted for an extra-base hit versus Mount St. Mary's, as senior Breanna Shaw and sophomore Niki Lau laced doubles and junior Alex Schultz added a triple to lead off the sixth inning.

Sophomore Kerry Hickey provided a lift for the Terps during the second game against Howard, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run home run during the fourth inning to give Maryland an early advantage. The Huntingtown, Md., native added an RBI single in the sixth inning as an insurance run.

In between Hickey's big hits, the Terps stormed back from a 4-3 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning against the Bison. The team capitalized on three Howard errors, as McLaughlin, Shaw, Takeda and freshman Vangie Galindo each crossed home plate.

The Terrapins return to action next weekend with the start of Atlantic Coast Conference play. Maryland welcomes No. 15 North Carolina to Robert E. Taylor Stadium for a three-game series. The Terrapins and Tar Heels play at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Each game is free to the public.
