COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Riding the momentum of last weekend's series victory at ACC rival NC State, the University of Maryland baseball team returns to the diamond this week with a home-and-home series against the Old Dominion Monarchs. The Terrapins (8-8, 2-4 ACC) are at Old Dominion at 6 p.m. Tuesday and the Monarchs (4-10) will be in College Park at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Maryland is coming off a doubleheader sweep of NC State Sunday, which gave the Terrapins the series victory, 2-1, getting them back to .500 overall.
Old Dominion is off to a slow start to the season, entering the week with a 4-10 overall record. The Monarchs have lost six of their last seven games, including two to ranked foes East Carolina and South Carolina.
The Terps won both games against the Monarchs last season, but Old Dominion leads the all-time series between the schools, 8-6.
Junior A.J. Casario leads the Terps with a .316 batting average and .544 slugging percentage. Casario also leads, or is tied for the team lead in hits, home runs, runs and RBIs.
The Monarchs have three players hitting .350 or better this season. Jake McAloose is hitting .392, Brett Harris comes in second at .353 and Chris Buss is hitting an even .350.
Both games against the Monarchs will be broadcast live on the Internet at WMUCSports.com.
