GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of Maryland, ranked fourth in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, will begin postseason play on Friday in the 32nd annual Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Tournament at Greensboro Coliseum. The regular-season champion and No. 1-seeded Terrapins will face No. 9 Wake Forest in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m.

Maryland (25-4, 12-2 ACC) watched from the stands as Wake Forest posted a 59-54 victory over No. 8 NC State in Thursday's first-round matchup. The Terps, riding a nine-game win streak into the tournament, upended the Demon Deacons (19-10, 5-9) by 27 points, 92-65, in the ACC opener on Jan. 8 at Comcast Center. It served as the Terps' largest margin of victory in ACC play this season.

The Terps have not played as the ACC Tournament's No. 1 seed since 1989, when Maryland last won both the regular season and tournament titles. Maryland earned a first-round bye in four straight ACC Tournaments and last advanced to the championship game in 2006, where it fell to top-seeded North Carolina - the winners of the last four tournament crowns.

Playing as the No. 1 seed, the Terps are 5-0 all-time. Maryland is tied with UNC with eight ACC Tournament titles apiece.

Senior point guard Kristi Toliver, a 2009 first team All-ACC selection along with guard/forward Marissa Coleman, finished the regular season with the second-highest scoring average in the conference (18.1 ppg), the highest scoring clip by a Terrapin since Bonnie Rimkus' 18.2 ppg in 1994. Coleman, arguably one of the hottest players in the nation in the Terps' 9-0 month of February (22 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 4.0 apg, 2.3 spg), claimed the last three ACC Player of the Week awards.

Coleman has averaged 15.7 points in seven career ACC Tournament contests while Toliver nets 10.9 ppg.

In 14 ACC games this season, Maryland owns the top scoring offense (82.4 ppg), field goal percentage (47 percent), 3-point percentage (43.1 percent), free-throw percentage (77 percent) and scoring margin (+10.9).

Maryland owns a 48-12 series advantage over the Demon Deacons and have won seven straight over Wake Forest.

Friday's quarterfinal matchup will be televised on RSN at 3 p.m.
