
Women's Tennis Set for ACC Tournament

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team heads into the postseason as it prepares for the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament which begins Thursday at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
The No. 11-seeded Terps will face No. 6 North Carolina in the opening round of the tournament at 3 p.m. Thursday. The two teams met in the first round of the 2008 ACC Tournament as Carolina edged out Maryland, 4-0.
If Maryland advances past North Carolina, it would face No. 3 Clemson in the second round on Friday.
Team captain Lisa Miller looks to lead the Terps into the last competition of the season with her team high 14 singles wins. Miller's 14 wins in 2008-2009 bests her previous season high of 11, which she accomplished last season.
The doubles tandem of Eleanor Peters and Jordan Hansbrough will look to continue solid play as they enter the ACC Tournament winning their last two matches against top 20 programs.
The career of Terps' senior co-captain Michal Amir is also winding down. Amir has compiled 47 singles and 44 doubles wins in her four years at Maryland.
All 12 ACC teams compete in the tournament with the top four seeds earning first round byes. The top four seeds in this year's tournament are Miami, Duke, Clemson and Georgia Tech. The tournament continues through the weekend with the finals being played on Sunday.
