The Maryland women's tennis team's season ended Thursday afternoon as the No. 6-seed North Carolina defeated the Terps, 4-0, in the opening round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.
North Carolina clinched the match with Sophie Grabinski's win, 6-2, 6-2, over Maggie MacKeever at the No. 4 slot.
Eleanor Peters and Lisa Miller each fell in their respective singles matches, allowing Carolina to build a solid lead over the Terps.
The Heels jumped on the Terps early, taking the doubles point with wins at the top two flights. MacKeever and Karin Lundmark fell to Sanaz Marand and Grabinski, 8-2, while Lisa Miller and Michal Amir lost to Katrina Tsang and Austin Smith by the same score.
With North Carolina's win over Maryland, the Heels advance to face No. 3 Clemson Friday in the quarterfinals.
Thursday's action also saw Wake Forest, Florida State and Virginia advance to the second round.
