CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Maryland senior Michelle Fedrick earned All-ACC honors with her second-place finish in the women's 400-meter dash, highlighting Terrapin performances Saturday on the final day of the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships being hosted by the University of Miami.
Fedrick ran a season- and career-best time of 53.22, cutting almost a second off her previous season-best of 53.94 from the Florida Relays and moving into second on Maryland's all-time list. She had run a 53.85 in Friday's qualifying. She finished second in the final to Britany St. Louis of Florida State, who won in 52.97.
Tommy Friscia and Zack Ray had Maryland's top finishes on the men's side on Saturday.
Friscia placed fourth in the 800-meter final at 1:52.49, moving up one spot from his No. 5 qualifying spot from Friday's prelims.
Ray, a freshman, was Maryland's top point-scorer in the meet for the men, getting five for his fourth-place finish with 52.79 in the 400 hurdles and another two team points to place seventh in the 110 hurdles at 14.65.
Fedrick's eight team points, combined with seven points from relay performances, gave the Terrapins 35 points in the final team standings and a tie with Wake Forest for ninth place. Florida State scored 160 points to win the women's team title, followed by Virginia Tech (127) and North Carolina (123).
The Maryland women placed fifth in the 4x400 relay, as Melony McKay, Michelle Fedrick, DeAnna Brown and D'Ambour Lewis ran 3:41.66. Alexis Booker, Lewis, Ashley Hendrix and Brown went a season-best 46.61 to place sixth in the 4x100 relay.
