Vasquez Enters Name Into NBA Draft

April 23, 2009

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Greivis Vasquez has filed paperwork to enter his name into the NBA Draft, Maryland head coach Gary Williams announced Thursday.

Vasquez, a 6-foot-6 guard from Caracas, Venezuela, averaged 17.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game for the Terrapins this season. He does not plan to hire an agent and will leave open the option of returning to campus for his senior season.

"It's a good opportunity for Greivis to test his marketability while still being a full-time student," said Williams.

Vasquez will continue to attend classes in the spring semester. He has until June 15 to decide whether to withdraw his name from the draft and return for his senior year.

"It's a good time to do this as a junior," said Vasquez. "This way, I'll get a taste of what I need to do to be successful and see where I am as a player. To play at the highest level eventually has always been a dream of mine."
