COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore Jamarr Robinson tossed three touchdown passes, all to wide receiver Quintin McCree, leading the White team to a 34-24 victory over the Red squad in Maryland's annual spring football game, which capped off Maryland Day, a campus-wide celebration.

The Red-White Spring game concluded the five-week spring practice season for head coach Ralph Friedgen and the Terrapins, who will return 10 starters and a number of other talented youngsters in the fall.

"I thought it was a good scrimmage," Friedgen said. "We limited what we were doing defensively (today). But I think it's been a very good spring, and our wide-receiver position seems like a different guy every week rises to the occasion."

The battle for playing time at wide receiver should continue into the fall with all nine scholarship wideouts showing promise this spring.

McCree made a case for playing time, posting a game-high 163 receiving yards on four receptions, including touchdown catches of 58 and 75 yards from Robinson, who completed 12 of 21 passes for 253 yards.

Looking to solidify the No. 2 signal-caller role heading into the fall, Robinson had two of his TD passes in the first half when the White team overcame an early 7-0 deficit by scoring 21 straight points, aided by a pair of blocked punts, which gave the offense a short field.

After Emani Lee-Odai blocked a Travis Baltz punt early in the second quarter, Robinson hit Kerry Boykins for 25 yards. Two plays later, Davin Meggett plunged in from 1-yard out, giving the White team a 14-7 advantage.

The Red offense was unable to move the ball on the ensuing possession and the White special teams took advantage.

Darin Drakeford, who nearly blocked the previous punt, came through untouched up the middle to block Baltz's second attempt of the day.

Three plays later, Robinson hit McCree on a 22-yard score in the corner of the end zone, giving the White team a 21-7 lead with 4:10 left in the second quarter.

Robinson and McCree put the nail in the coffin on the first official offensive play of the second half.

After a false start penalty gave the White team the ball at its own 25, Robinson connected with McCree down the left sideline in the seam of zone coverage and the sophomore wideout out-raced Brandon Jackson-Mills and Austin Walker into the end zone.

The White team also had some solid defensive play, with seven tackles for loss and four sacks.

"Defensively, I think today, when we just limit some things, it makes it a little bit tougher on them, but I've been very pleased with them overall," Friedgen said. "I think they're really progressing."

Junior Drew Gloster, who has made the move from tight end to middle linebacker, led the White team with 10 tackles, including 1 1/2 for loss. Redshirt freshman Demetrius Hartsfield, who has impressed the staff from his outside LB spot, had seven tackles.

Chris Turner looked sharp for the Red team. The senior completed 15 of 21 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns.

Cannon was the top receiver for the Red squad, posting five receptions for 99 yards, including a 23-yard TD pass from Turner in the third quarter.

Turner also threw a late touchdown pass to redshirt freshman Kevin Dorsey, another one of the young receivers.

Friedgen likes the situation at wide receiver and quarterback.

"I just think we've got a lot of players who can make plays there," Friedgen said of the wideouts. "I think Chris (Turner) is handling the offense very well. I think he had one mistake today, taking a sack to the Reds, but other than that I thought he played very good. I thought Jamarr (Robinson) is coming along and playing pretty well, also.

There weren't many big plays in the running game, but redshirt freshman Gary Douglas showed his elusiveness. Douglas led the Red squad with 31 rushing yards on seven carries. He also hauled in three passes from Turner for 53 yards.

Anthony Green continued to impress as the No. 3 quarterback. He did not complete a pass but rushed for a game-high 53 yards on seven carries.

Scrimmage Notes: The game featured four 12-minute quarters with a handful of players seeing action for both teams. Offensive linemen and long-snapper Tim Downs were members of the Black team which saw action for both Red and White squads ... the game's announced attendance was 10,323 ...temperatures hovered in the upper 80s through much of the game, easily the warmest practice day of the spring for the Terps ... the team held an autograph session prior to the game ... the White team won for the fourth-straight time ... eight former players received lettermen rings from head coach Ralph Friedgen during a halftime ceremony ... three starters, DB Nolan Carroll (concussion), DL Travis Ivey (shoulder) and RB Da'Rel Scott (knee), were injured recently and did not play in the game.
