COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team travels to 10th-ranked Virginia this weekend for a three-game series against its Atlantic Coast Conference rival.
The Terrapins (13-15, 3-9 ACC) won both their midweek contests this week, defeating Navy, 7-3, Tuesday in Annapolis, Md., before besting UMES, 12-3, Wednesday at Shipley Field.
The Terps have lost four consecutive conference games and are looking to get wins to stay in the hunt for an ACC Tournament berth.
The Cavaliers are off to a fast start this season, entering weekend play with a 24-4 record and 6-4 mark in the ACC. Virginia won its first 18 games of the season and three of its four losses have come by one run to top-five teams North Carolina and Miami.
The series begins at 7 p.m. Friday with sophomore Brett Harman starting on the mound for the Terps and facing freshman southpaw Danny Hultzen of the Cavaliers. Scott Swinson will face Andrew Carraway at 4 p.m. Saturday and the series concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday with freshman Matt Fullerton facing Tyler Wilson.
Junior outfielder A.J. Casario leads Maryland's offensive attack, leading the team in most offensive categories. Casario is batting .373 and slugging .627 with six home runs and 23 RBIs. Casario ranks among the top 20 in the ACC in several categories, as well.
Virginia leads the ACC in batting average, hits, RBIs, runs and total bases. Leadoff batter Jarrett Parker leads the league in runs, triples and stolen bases and is third in the ACC in batting average.
The Cavaliers have won 18 straight games against the Terps and 11 straight at home.
Live video of the entire series will be available via ACC Select and WMUCSports.com will provide live radio coverage of all three games.
