COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Devon Williams drove in a pair of runs and junior Alex Schultz tallied two hits, but the University of Maryland softball team fell to No. 16/23 Georgia Tech, 9-2 and 8-0, during an Atlantic Coast Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Robert E. Taylor Stadium.

Playing against one of the nation's hottest teams, the Terrapins collected at least one hit in every inning of Saturday's first game and scored a pair of runs during the bottom of the sixth. Williams, who now has played 197 career games at Maryland, notched a two-out, two-run single when she drove the ball through the right side of the infield. The hit scored Schultz, who reached base on a fielder's choice, and sophomore Marisha Branson, who pinch ran following Kerry Hickey's infield single.

Senior pitcher Sarah Dooley relieved Hickey and pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, overcoming a bases-loaded jam in the seventh. The veteran right-hander worked two more scoreless frames to start game two, extending her streak of innings pitched without allowing an earned run to 28.2 before the Yellow Jackets found the scoreboard during their half of the third.

Hickey (12-9) took the loss for Maryland (29-25, 9-11 ACC) during Saturday's first game, despite striking out six in 5.1 innings of work. The right-hander from Huntingtown, Md., returned to the circle to pitch two scoreless innings in relief during the second game, a five-inning affair. Dooley (16-10) struck out five during the first three innings of game two and lost for the first time in four decisions.

Senior Breanna Shaw returned to action after missing eight games due to injury. The Terps' infielder singled and drew a walk during Saturday's first game, and she continues to pace the team in batting with a .326 average.

Sophomore Niki Lau contributed another outstanding play in the outfield during Saturday's second contest. Georgia Tech sophomore Kristen Adkins lifted a fly ball to deep center field, but Lau raced backwards to snare it several steps onto the warning track.

Georgia Tech senior Tiffany Johnson (14-3) pitched a perfect game during the nightcap to extend the Yellow Jackets' ACC win streak to 13 games. Adkins (21-7) earned the victory in game one, and junior Jen Yee hit a pair of home runs for Georgia Tech (40-13, 17-3 ACC), which clinched the regular season conference title.

Despite Saturday's outcomes, Maryland remains ahead of Virginia Tech by percentage points for fourth place in the ACC standings.

Maryland returns to action Sunday with its regular season finale against Georgia Tech at 1 p.m. in Taylor Stadium. The game will serve as Senior Day for Dooley, Shaw and Williams, and that trio will be honored prior to the first pitch. The contest is free to the public, and parking will be available in Lots 4B and 9B.
