Senior third baseman Mike Murphy has been named to the 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine First-Team Academic All-District Baseball Team for District 2, it was announced Thursday.
A Silver Spring, Md., native from Georgetown Prep, Murphy has been a force on and off the field for the Terrapins in his four-year career.
As a player, Murphy leads the Terps in batting average, home runs, RBIs and slugging percentage this season and ranks in the top five in school history in most major offensive categories.
As a student, Murphy owns a cumulative GPA of 3.43 in Finance - Business Management and has been named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's all-academic team two years running.
With his inclusion on the all-district team, Murphy is now eligible for CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine all-American status.
