GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland boasts six student-athletes on the 2008-09 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Academic Team, announced by the league office today.
Junior captain Patty DeScenza, senior Yelena Skalinskaya and freshman Ginny Glover represent the women's side while sophomore Mitch Challacombe, junior Alexsander Damjanic and freshman Sean Stewart were tabbed to the list from the men's squad. It is the second academic honor this season for Damjanic, an international business major, who was also named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection.
The Maryland women's swimming and diving team was awarded Academic All-American Team honors for the 2008 fall semester by the College Swim Coaches Association of America earlier this year.
NCAA champion diver Kristin Davies from N.C. State and Miami's Ruben Ross were named the ACC Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
To be eligible for consideration on the All-ACC team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained at least a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career.
