FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - University of Maryland sophomore Kiani Profit finished seventh in her semifinal heat of the women's 400 hurdles Thursday at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships being hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Profit ran 59.07 in the first of two semifinal heats and did not advance to the final round. Nicole Leach of UCLA ran 55.83 to win that heat and post the top time heading into Friday's final.
The top four finishers in each of the two semifinals, plus the competitor with the next fastest time, advanced to the final. Profit would have needed a mark of 57.89 to move to the final.
Profit was also qualified in the heptathlon at nationals, but dropped from the competition to focus on the hurdles. Maryland head coach Andrew Valmon said Profit had some soreness and left the heptathlon after one event to prepare for the hurdles semifinal.
Senior Michelle Fedrick runs on Friday in a semifinal of the women's 400 meters. The final of the 400 will be on Saturday.
