EUGENE, Ore. - University of Maryland student-athletes finished near the top of the pack in their events last weekend at the USA Track and Field Junior National Championships held at historic Hayward Field.
Rising Maryland sophomore Dwight Barbiasz cleared 7 feet, 0.50 inches in the men's high jump, to place third. Second-place finisher Erik Kynard, competing unattached, also cleared 7-0.50, earning the higher placing due to fewer misses. Ricky Robertson, competing unattached, won the event as he was the lone athlete to clear 7-1.75.
Junior-to-be Kiani Profit placed fourth in the final of the women's 400 hurdles, running 59.06. Dalilah Muhammad of USC won the final in 57.32, with Turquoise Thompson of Together Elite in second at 57.93. Profit won her heat in the 400 hurdles prelims on Saturday, running 58.84.
The top two finishers in each event will represent the U.S. team at the Pan American Junior Games next month in Trinidad.
