Maryland women's lacrosse head coach Cathy Reese has been tabbed IWLCA South Region Coach of the Year, announced Friday.
Reese, who is only in her third season at the helm of the Maryland program, led the Terps to a 21-1 record in 2009. The Ellicott City, Md., native and former Terrapin All-American also picked up her second ACC Coach of the Year title. This season, Reese's ACC champion Terps paced the ACC in goals, assists, points, shots and shot percentage, while tallying the team's highest win total since 2001 and landing in the NCAA Final Four. The Terps are poised for another tremendous run in 2010 as Reese returns all 12 starters next season.
Former Maryland standout Kelly Amonte Hiller, who led Northwestern to its fifth-straight national title in the 2009, was named IWLCA National Coach of the Year. Mike Waldvogel (Fairfield) was honored in the Northeast Region and Karin Brower (Penn) captured the award in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
