SAN JUAN, P.R. - University of Maryland point guard Greivis Vasquez has finished his play for the Venezuela National Team that participated in the 2009 FIBA Americas Tournament last week.

Venezuela finished 1-3 in Group B of the draw and placed fifth in the group, failing to advance to the quarterfinal round.

The Terrapin senior from Caracas, Venezuela, led his team with 22 assists in the four games, with his per-game average being tied for third among the 10 teams in the opening round. Vasquez had only 11 turnovers and was second on the team in minutes (31.0 mpg).

Vasquez scored 9.8 points per game for Venezuela in the four games and went 6-for-16 behind the 3-point arc.

In Venezuela's third game of the tournament, an 80-71 loss to Panama, Vasquez had possibly his best game of the four, tying for team-high honors with 17 points while adding five assists and two steals in 37 minutes. He was 3-for-6 from 3-point range.

The Dominican Republic eliminated Venezuela from the tournament in a 78-73 decision. Vasquez had 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds in 33 minutes.

Vasquez, a Wooden Award candidate for the Terrapins this season, became the first Maryland player in history to lead the team in points, rebounds and assists.
