CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Sophomore John Popeck fired a 2-under-par 69 in the final round to finish in a tie for 11th place, leading the University of Maryland men's golf team to a sixth-place finish Sunday in the Maryland Intercollegiate at River Marsh Golf Club.

Overall, the Terrapins shot 875 (290-289-296) over three rounds. North Carolina won the event, shooting an 849 as a team, one stroke better than runner-up Virginia Commonwealth.

Sophomore Sean Brannan also finished in the top 20 finishers for the Terps, shooting a 4-over-par 217 with consistent rounds of 73, 71 and 73 to finish in a tie for 14th place.

Junior Donnie Shin finished tied for 27th with a 221 (70-73-78). Rounding out the counted scores for Maryland was Brendan Tracy, who tied for 35th place, shooting 223 (74-73-76).

Playing as an individual, Andrew Kay matches Tracy's score of 223. Chris Miller finished with a 232, also playing as an individual.

North Carolina's Henry Zatoun and Virginia's Ben Kohles split individual medalist honors, shooting 206, seven under par. Both Zatoun and Kohles shot rounds of 66, the lowest single-round score of the event.

The Terps have a two-week break before playing in the VCU Invitational September 28 and 29.
