Terps Return to Road at BC

    CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Maryland completes a brief two-game road trip with a stop in Chestnut Hill, Mass., to face Boston College for a regionally televised matchup. The Terrapins fell to 1-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with an 85-83 overtime loss at Wake Forest on Tuesday. The Terps are in a logjam in the middle of the conference standings, as 11 of the 12 teams are within one game of each other afer a week and a half of action. The Terrapins will seek to be the fourth team in the early-going to earn an ACC road victory.

    The game will be televised live regionally on the Raycom network. A list of affiliates is on a link at the top of the page. In the Baltimore-Washington area, it can be seen on WNUV-TV and on WDCA-TV.

    The matchup can also be heard across the Terrapin Sports Radio Network, including Baltimore flagships WJZ-FM (105.7), WJZ-AM (1300). In Washington, D.C., Tuesday's game will be heard on WJFK-FM (106.7). Pregame on the network begins at 3 p.m.

  • Greivis Vasquez scored 30 points on Tuesday in the loss at Wake Forest, the third 30-point game of his career and the first by a Terrapin since he had 33 at NC State (3/1/2009) a year ago. Vasquez has moved up to third in the league in scoring (18.5 ppg) and is among ACC leaders in six categories.

  • Vasquez has scored at least 20 points in seven straight games, becoming the first Maryland player to have that long a 20-point streak since Walt Williams finished the 1991-92 season with 19 straight. Vasquez is averaging 25.0 points per game in his last seven games and 22.5 ppg in his last 11 games (all double figures). The senior from Venezuela is on Maryland career lists in nine different categories.

  • A 3-pointer with 1:34 left in regulation Tuesday gave Maryland a brief lead at Wake Forest and gave senior Eric Hayes his 1,001st career point. He is the 48th Terrapin to reach that plateau in his career. Hayes is also among ACC leaders in 3-pointers per game and 3-point FG percentage.

  • All five Maryland starters appear currently in some category among ACC statistical leaders.

  • Maryland has won five of its last seven games.

    Scouting the Eagles

    Boston College is 10-7 overall and 1-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, having lost two straight and three of its last four games... The Eagles lost 79-59, at Duke in their most recent outing... They also had a 72-56 loss at Clemson and won their only conference home game thus far with a 61-60 win over Miami on 12/6/2009...

    Junior forward Joe Trapani leads the Eagles in scoring with a 14.6 points per game average... He also leads BC in 3-pointers with 27...

    Boston College has four players averaging in double figures, including sophomore guard Reggie Jackson (13.6 ppg), junior forward Corey Raji (12.0 ppg, team-high 7.1 rebounds per game) and junior swingman Rakim Sanders (10.9 ppg)... Junior point guard Biko Paris is 5th in the league with a 5.1 assists per game average...

    Jackson was the lone BC player in double figures on Wednesday at Duke, scoring 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the floor.

    The Eagles are shooting .448 from the field this season, but hold a plus-7.5 edge in rebounds per game.

    Milestones, Streaks, Rankings, etc.

  • Maryland has hit at least one 3-pointer in 370 consecutive games.

    Maryland is facing its typically difficult schedule again this season. In this week's Associated Press poll, eight Terrapin opponents are ranked in the Top 25 (#4 Villanova, #8 Duke, #12 UNC, #13 Wisconsin, #20 Georgia Tech, #23 Miami, #24 Clemson, #25 Florida State)... Three others received votes in the poll.
