Adams, Krikorian Earn Weekly Honors

Jan. 19, 2010

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland gymnasts Abigail Adams and Ally Krikorian were voted the East Atlantic Gymnastic League's Gymnast of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league announced today for their performances in the Terps' home-opening win over Temple, Cornell and Bridgeport Friday night.

With the win, the Terrapins moved to 3-1 on the year. They earned a team vault score of 49.125, the second-highest vault score in team history. Their performance in the event Friday night puts them at No. 17 nationally in the vault.

Adams led the Terps with her all-around score of 39.225. She led off on vault with a 9.900 (No. 6 in the Southeast region) and then scored a 9.750 on the uneven bars, as well as on the balance beam. In the floor exercise, Adams earned a 9.825, which ties her for No. 13 in the region and puts her at No. 7 in the all-around.

"She really put it all together this weekend," head coach Brett Nelligan said. "When Abbey's feeling confident like this on all four events she is a threat to win the all-around at every meet."

Krikorian earned her Rookie of the Week honor for her score of 9.950 on the vault. Her mark was the highest of the meet and tied the highest individual vault score in school history. It is the highest vault score in the region so far this season and puts her at No. 3 in the region for vault average. She is also ranked No. 17 nationally in the event.

She is the second Terrapin to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season, as Kesley Cofsky was honored last week.

"Ally's vault was impressive and the landing was perfect," Nelligan said. "The fact that we have won EAGL Rookie of the Week honors in back to back weeks shows what a strong freshman class we have this year."

The Terps will open their EAGL competition season this weekend when they head to Morgantown, W.Va. to take on West Virginia and No. 23 N.C. State Sunday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m.
