Final Stats

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The Maryland gymnastics team (4-3) earned one EAGL win and two losses in Sunday's quad meet against fellow EAGL teams No. 23 N.C. State, George Washington, and meet host West Virginia. Senior Talia Tossone won the balance beam competition and junior Abigail Adams tied for first in the floor exercise.

"We did well on the first three events (bars, floor and vault) and had the lead going into the last rotation," head coach Brett Nelligan said. "But we didn't finish. When you go on the road, you have to finish and we couldn't do that."

Adams, along with freshman Ally Krikorian, tied for second in the vault with their scores 9.775. It was the Terrapins' strongest event of the day as freshman Kesley Cofsky also finished in the top five with her score of 9.750. The Terps earned an overall score of 48.675 in the event.

Moving on to the uneven bars, Adams finished in the top five with her 9.725. On the balance beam, Maryland's last rotation of the day, freshman Briana Melander broke her career high with a score of 9.750. Tossone won the beam competition with her score of 9.800.

"We did well on everything, we just can't have issues at the end," Nelligan said. "Talia and Briana both did great jobs pulling it together for us in the last event."

Adams tied for first in floor with her score of 9.850, a new season high. She finished fourth in the all-around.

West Virginia won the meet with a total team score of 194.000, while N.C. State came in second with a 193.225. The Terps finished in third with a 193.000. George Washington came in fourth with its score of 188.650.

The Terrapins will return home next weekend to host No. 17 Denver, West Virginia and Rutgers Saturday, Jan. 30 at 4 p.m.
