SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior guard Greivis Vasquez was among the 20 finalists announced Tuesday for the 2010 Bob Cousy Award by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The award is given to college basketball's top point guard and is named after former Boston Celtic great Bob Cousy. An original list of 73 candidates was cut by an appointed, national committee.
Vasquez, the only player in Maryland history to post 500 rebounds and 500 assists in his career, is currently leading the Terrapins in scoring (17.3 points per game) and assists (6.15 per game). He also averages 5.0 rebounds per game and is among the leaders in the Atlantic Coast Conference in free-throw percentage (.867).
The list of 20 finalists will be narrowed to 10 by Feb. 1 and to five by March 1. The winner will be revealed at the Hall of Fame Class Announcement on Monday, April 5, in Indianapolis as part of NCAA Final Four weekend.
The award is presented by The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc.
