Fricke Leads Terps at ACCs

BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore Julie Fricke led Maryland runners to the line on Saturday as the Terrapins placed 10th as a team at the Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Boston College.

Fricke was 54th overall, covering the 6-kilometer course in 22:05.8. It was the third straight meet at which Fricke was the leading Terrapin finisher.

Ashley Cromartie was just behind, placing 58th in 22:08.9, followed by Ashley Campbell (76th, 22:34.5), Becky Yep (85th, 22:52.5) and Andrea Rothschild (88th, 22:57.8).

Maryland scored 311 points to finish 10th in the team standings. Florida State, which also won the men's team title, finished with 52 points to claim the conference title. Virginia was second with 75 and Duke finished with 99 points.

NC State freshman Laura Hoer won the individual championship, going 20:04.4 and beating Florida State senior Pasca Cheruiyot by one second.

For the men, Maryland graduate student Greg Kelsey finished eighth individually and earned All-ACC status Saturday to lead Terrapin finishes at the Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Boston College.

Kelsey finished the 8-kilometer course in 23:50, earning the all-league honor that comes with a finish in the top 14.

As a team, the Maryland men placed eighth, finishing just two points behind Virginia Tech. Maryland had 244 points.
