Postgame Quotes - Illinois 80, Maryland 76

Nov. 19, 2010

Recap |  Final Stats

Head Coach Gary Williams

On the game:
"I'm really proud of the team. Both nights here we could have folded, but we didn't. We're playing the fourth-ranked team and the 13th-ranked team and we have some new parts that we're trying to get in there... I'm really proud of these guys. I found out a lot about our team the last two nights. You come here to obviously win the tournament like the last time we were here, but I found out some things that I could never find out in practice. That's the key when you play against top flight teams like these two teams that are well coached, play really hard, and play in great conferences. You learn a lot about your players because you have some guys that aren't tested and you're getting tested against some of the best teams in the country. It's kind of good to get that this time of year. I'm proud of that and I'm proud of the way we handled Dino Gregory and Jordan Williams on the bench for twelve to thirteen minutes in the first half. James Padgett probably played his best game of the year so far and Berend Weijs just keeps getting better as he continues to play. I'm proud of those guys."

On Jordan Williams:
"He's a great player. I didn't have to learn that about him up here. He's kind of established that before he came here. It's a shame both nights he got two fouls early and hopefully we figure out a way for that not to happen."

On Illinois' 3-Point Shooting:
"They are a great streak shooting team. They seem to feed off each other and are unselfish. Wherever you make the mistake defensively that's where the ball seems to end up. It's not one guy looking for his threes. Whoever has the ball is looking to get the ball to the guy that's open. They are really good at kicking the ball back out to the 3-point line if they do get a second shot."

On Maryland's Shooting Ability:
"We shot 48 percent last night against a good Pittsburgh team. You're not going to shoot better against teams like that. What I'd like to see is more threes, especially against a team like Illinois. You'd like to match their 3-pointers, but they have those veteran players shooting threes."
