Terrapins Announce 2011 Schedule

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team announced its 2011 spring schedule Wednesday. The Terps will face 12 of the 64 teams that went to last year's NCAA Tournament.
Maryland will play in four early season tournaments. The Terps will host the annual Maryland Round Robin March 16-19, as well as four ACC weekend series and a 13-game home stand beginning in April.
The Terrapins will open the season Feb. 11-13 in the Fourth Annual Red and Black Showcase in Athens, Ga. The Terps will play tournament host Georgia, Iowa, and NCAA tournament teams Illinois State, Lipscomb and East Carolina.
Two weeks later, the Terps head to Boca Raton, Fla. for Florida Atlantic's Strike Out Classic. In Boca Raton, Maryland will play Big East teams Pittsburgh and Connecticut, as well as Kent State and Jacksonville.
March 4-6, Maryland will play in the ESPN Walt Disney World Tournament in Orlando, Fla. While at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, the Terrapins will see NCAA tournament teams, Illinois, Notre Dame and Illinois State again. Longwood and Temple will also be in the ESPN Walt Disney World Tournament.
Following their trip to Orlando, the Terrapins will play host to a doubleheader with East Carolina March 9 beginning at 5 p.m. After the doubleheader, Maryland will head south once more for the University of South Florida's The Game Tournament March 11-13 in Tampa. They will match up against Nebraska, Colorado State, St. John's, St. Joseph's and Quinnipiac.
Fordham, who the Terrapins played in the 2010 NCAA Regionals, will return to College Park for a doubleheader March 16 beginning at 5 p.m.
The Maryland Round Robin will begin March 18 and will run through March 19. Princeton, Utah, Villanova and Hampton will all come to play in the tournament.
The Terrapins will open Atlantic Coast Conference play at Virginia March 26-27. They will welcome Georgia Tech, Boston College, North Carolina State, and North Carolina to College Park for home ACC series. Maryland will play series at Florida State and Virginia Tech.
In 2010, the Terps earned an NCAA Tournament bid for the first time in 10 years and second time in school history. Maryland hosted the 2010 Regionals at Robert E. Taylor Stadium and welcomed Oklahoma, Fordham and Syracuse for the first round. The Terrapins went 34-24 last year and were 17-8 at home.
