Post-Game Quotes

Maryland vs. Clemson

Sunday, Feb. 14,  2010

College Park, Md. (Comcast Center)

Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese

 Opening Statement:

“Obviously I'm very pleased to get a solid win, especially given the stretch coming off four games in nine days and the stretch that we're in ACC play. I'm pleased obviously to see the dominance that we had on the glass tonight as well as stepping up and being able to knock down our free throws. Those are important areas that we've got to be able to have in ACC play.”

On the team's aggression:

“It was something that we talked about in the locker room. From the tip we wanted to be relentless and it starts with, I think, your point guard being extremely aggressive. I thought Dara Taylor did a tremendous job setting the tone early and then I thought our post game did a nice job in terms of running the floor hard and being aggressive inside in the paint.”

On being able to get a victory at home after a tough stretch:

“It's great. Obviously we take pride in wanting to play well every time we're out here in front of our great fans and it's something that's extremely important to us.”

On the importance of this win:

“Every game is important but I think given the difficult stretch that we had, just so many games, being able to come back. I thought we really established some confidence in our team. We really, I'd say this last week turned the corner starting from taking that UVA game down to Wake and the time we got to spend there, I feel like this team is really taking ownership of this team”

On the depth of the team:

“We were saying that the exciting thing is that there are a lot of options. From a coach's end you're wondering about a level of consistency from game to game, but the fact that our coaching staff has a great feel for who's playing well when and we've been able to understand that through practices and just watching this team coming into their own”

Freshman guard Dara Taylor

On the team's performance tonight

“I definitely agree with Coach B. I think we're going so hard in practice right now just trying to make each other better. It's definitely paying off in the games. We're communicating better and bringing more energy and starting the game off strong. I think we're growing together as a team and every game we have and practice together, we get better.”

On making that three-point shot early in the game:

“I haven't made many 3's this season, so when I saw that one fall, it kind of sparked me a little and got me going”

Sophomore center Lynetta Kizer

On playing better today than she has recently:

“I'm just relaxing and letting the game come to me. I'm can't force it. I'm just relaxing and just playing.

On the upcoming game at Duke:

“Just the atmosphere alone. It's a tough atmosphere to play in. I think one thing that the coaches are going to make sure of is that we go in there as one team and just compete for forty minutes because they came in here and got us by a point and that left a bitter taste in our mouths. We're definitely going to take this week and prepare.”
