Terps Play Host to Georgia Tech

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland faces the last in a busy stretch of games at 2 p.m. Saturday when it plays host to Georgia Tech in the only meeting of the regular season between the teams. The matchup with the Yellow Jackets will be the Terrapins fourth in eight days in a stretch made necessary by the postponement of the Virginia game on Feb. 10. The Terps have traveled to Duke, hosted Virginia, played at NC State and now host Tech in a stretch between Feb. 13 and 20.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets
Georgia Tech is currently in seventh place in the ACC standings with a 6-6 league record and an 18-8 mark overall. The Yellow Jackets have dropped three of their last five, but won at home over North Carolina, 68-51, in their most recent outing. Freshman forward Derrick Favors had 13 points and nine boards in leading four Tech scorers in double figures against the Heels. The Jackets rolled to a 41-21 halftime edge and cruised to the win. Brian Oliver and Zachery Peacock each had 12 points and Maurice Miller added 11 as those three players all came off the bench to score in double figures.
Junior forward Gani Lawal leads Georgia Tech in scoring with a 14.0 points-per-game average. Lawal leads Tech and is third in the league in rebounding with a 9.5 per game average. Favors, one of the top freshmen in the league this season, averages 11.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game this year, while Peacock is scoring 9.7 points off the bench for Tech. Oliver is among the top 3-point shooters in the league, hitting 2.0 per game and shooting .417 from behind the arc. Seven different Tech players have at least 10 3-pointers this year.
Tech is 5-1 in ACC games at home, but is 1-5 on the road in the conference so far this year. Tech won at North Carolina, 73-71, on Jan. 16, but dropped a two-point decision at Miami on Feb. 10.
