COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Greivis Vasquez was named ESPN.com's National Player of the Week and Atlantic Coast Conference POW for his performances during Maryland's last three contests.
The Terrapins (19-7, 9-3) won their three games last week, knocking off Virginia (Monday), NC State (Wednesday) and Georgia Tech (Saturday) to move into sole possession of second place.
Vasquez averaged 24.7 points, 6.3 assists and 5.7 rebounds during the week's action. The senior guard had a season-high tying 30 points vs. the Cavaliers, including 25 in the first half.
In Saturday's game vs. the Yellow Jackets, he became the sixth player in Maryland history to score career 2,000 points and the only player in ACC annals to reach 2,000 points, 700 assists and 600 rebounds in his career.
For Vasquez, it's his third ACC Player of the Week honor this season, including second in the last three weeks. He has won it seven times in his career.
Duke's Jon Scheyer has also won it three times this year.
The Terps are back in action Wednesday when they play host to Clemson (9 p.m. tip). A limited number of tickets remain for the game, though the Duke contest (March 3) is sold out.
Tickets are also on sale for the ACC Tournament (March 11-14).
