Dukes Comeback To Top Maryland, 6-2

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Starting pitcher Eric Potter helped Maryland take a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning, but a five-run inning by James Madison lifted the Dukes to a 6-2 win Tuesday night.
With the Terps clinging to the tight lead, Ian Schwalenberg replaced Potter after he gave up a walk and a bunt single to lead off the seventh. JMU loaded the bases when Kent Burford reached on an error, then tied the game up on a single by Johnny Bladel. Trevor Knight's bases clearing, three-run double to right center put JMU ahead 5-2.
James Madison added its final run on Browning's single up the middle, which scored Knight.
After three scoreless innings to start the game, Maryland jumped ahead 1-0 in the fourth. Alfredo Rodriguez, who went 2-for-5, led off the inning with a double and scored on a double by Brandon Padula, who went 2-for-4 on the evening.
The Terps extended their lead the next inning. Matthew Murakami was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on Jack Cleary's sacrifice bunt. David Poutier then singled to left field, scoring Murakami and giving Maryland a 2-0 lead.
The Dukes cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by David Herbek that scored Knight.
Potter (1-3) struck out six and allowed only five hits, but was tagged with the loss after giving up three earned runs.
Kevin Munson (2-0), who pitched 1 2/3 in relief for James Madison (8-10), earned the win.
Maryland (8-12) plays host to UMBC Wednesday at Shipley Field at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
