Terps Add Two to Signing Class

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland head basketball coach Gary Williams on Monday announced the signing of Pe'Shon Howard and Haukur Palsson to National Letters of Intent to join the Terrapins in the fall of 2010.
Howard is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound shooting guard from Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., who offers a strong, physical presence in the backcourt.
Palsson is a 6-foot-6 small forward who plays for Montverde Academy in Florida. He was the sixth man on one of the top high school teams in the nation, averaging 10 points and five rebounds.
The Terrapins signed Ashton Pankey (6-9, PF, Bronx, N.Y.), Mychal Parker (6-6, SF, Crozet, Va.) and Terrell Stoglin (6-1, PG, Tucson, Ariz.) during the early signing period last November.
The five-player class has garnered national attention, as ESPN.com ranks the class 21st in the nation.

Graded at 92 by ESPN.com... Point guard on nationally ranked Oak Hill squad... Ranked 39th among shooting guards nationally by ESPN.com... Described by ESPN.com as a "powerful perimeter player that can be productive at both guard positions." Was averaging 15 points, seven assists at mid-season for Oak Hill... High school coach was Steve Smith... Only the second sophomore starter at Oak Hill for Smith, according to the Baltimore Sun... Chose Maryland over UCLA, Virginia, Georgia Tech and USF.
Williams on Howard: "He is a very physical combination guard who can handle the ball and score. His quickness and strength allow him to be an outstanding defensive player."
HAUKUR PALSSON (6-foot-6, 215 pounds, small forward, Montverde, Fla., Montverde Academy)
Graded at 89 by ESPN.com... Sixth man on an outstanding Montverde team, averaging around 10 points and five rebounds per game... Native of Iceland... Chose Maryland over Harvard, USF... ESPN.com says Palsson is a versatile player with range out to 19 feet... High school coach was Kevin Sutton... Will be a "steady, effective and productive player in the ACC who will give a terrific effort every night," according to ESPN.com... Solid student with a 3.3 grade-point average.
Williams on Palsson: "He is a very aggressive player who is versatile enough to play several positions for us. He is becoming an outstanding shooter with a great work ethic."
