Hultzen Outduels Harman As UVA Tops Terps, 5-1

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Virginia starting pitcher Danny Hultzen and Maryland starter Brett Harman battled each other for seven-plus innings and the No. 2 Cavaliers provided enough run support to come away with a win, defeating the Terps 5-1 in game one of a doubleheader Friday afternoon.
Hultzen, who entered the game leading the ACC with a 2.10 ERA, was slightly better than Harman, who ranked fourth in ACC games with a 2.70 ERA.
A sophomore-lefty, Hultzen (6-1) went 7 2/3 and struck out five, allowing just one run - a solo homer by Brandon Padula in the third inning.
Harman (4-6) gave the Terps another great outing, striking out eight in eight innings and allowing just three runs.
The Cavaliers scored two runs in the second inning on a Reed Gragnani double and added a third run on a solo home run by Jarrett Parker in the third.
Harman got better as the game went on, allowing just two hits after the third inning, but Maryland was unable to provide any additional run support.
Matthew Murakami went 2-for-3 to lead the Terps offensively, who managed just six hits in the game.
Virginia (32-9, 13-6 ACC) added two runs in the top of the ninth, both of which were unearned, to pad its lead.
With the loss, Maryland dropped to 15-26 and 4-15 in the ACC.
