Kolarek, Four Terp Signees Taken On Day Two Of MLB Draft

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland junior pitcher Adam Kolarek was selected in the 11th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Mets and four Maryland signees were also taken on day two of the three-day draft.
RHP Tyler Vail (Notre Dame Green Pond HS; Easton, Pa.) was taken in the fifth round by the Oakland Athletics; C Patrick Leyland (Bishop Canevin HS; Pittsburgh, Pa.) was picked in the eighth round by the Detroit Tigers; INF JaDamion Williams (Brooks-Debartolo Collegiate Prep; Odessa, Fla.) was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 10th round; and 1B Tim Kiene (Avon Old Farms HS; South Windsor, Conn.) was taken in round 30 by the Washington Nationals.
In all, five Maryland signees were taken in the first two days of the draft, with INF Chris Culver (West Irondequoit HS; Rochester, N.Y.) going in round one to the New York Yankees.
Kolarek missed part of the 2010 season with an injury, but was effective when healthy.
A lefty from nearby Catonsville High School, Kolarek made 13 appearances in 2010, totaling 35.2 innings pitched and leading the team by holding opposing batters to a .246 average. He has a 5.03 career ERA, tallying 89 strikeouts in 111 innings pitched.
The draft wraps up Wednesday with rounds 31-50.
